The Purpose of the Building Enclosure
The former CEO of Starkey Construction, William “Bill” Starkey, is a Montgomery, Texas resident and a construction expert with over three decades of experience. In his capacity as CEO of Starkey Construction, William Starkey was responsible for leading the firm in developing and building high-quality homes, all of which were built to create an effective building enclosure.
The building enclosure controls the flow of water, air, light, sound, and people into and out of the structure. The enclosure is made up of foundations, above-grade walls, and roofing. These are called assemblies, and how they’re put together determines how well the structure performs and for how long.
From the architect and engineers to the project managers and subcontractors, the whole construction team should be informed on moisture hazards and accountable for quality work. To protect a building from disruptions while providing optimum comfort for the people, building enclosure assemblies must be precisely planned and constructed.
